Nikon D90

Nikon's D90 is a young entrant. The D80 was known for its quality sensor and was a great mid-range dSLR. The D90 therefore has a lot to prove, especially considering its price.

The D90 we received came along with an 18-105-mm VR lens, with a 6x optical zoom: this kind of range allows one to capture from wide-angles to good telescopic images (for better telescopic images, you should consider the Nikon 18-200 mm lens).

Operating the D90 is pretty straight forward - two jog dials are present - one at the front of the shutter release button and one on the rear near the screen. Accessing them is simple and the feel of the dials is very nice as well, but holding the camera might be a problem for users with smaller hands.

The focus ring on the lens is located on the body instead of the tip of the lens as on some of the other cameras. The camera focuses quickly, even in low-light, and the manual focus is very easy.

The 3-inch screen is exceptionally good and Nikon has implemented Live View in this camera that lets you focus using the screen. The general reaction from professional photographers is that they aren't really fond of this feature. Another interesting addition to the camera is the HD 720p video recording function. The quality of the video is good; the only drawback here is that of manual focusing.

The D90 together with the AF-S DX 18-105/3.5-5.6G VR lens is priced at Rs. 83,950. It's a great enthusiast multi-purpose camera, though!

Full HDTV 1080p televisions are masterpieces of modern technology. They offer a crystal clear picture in resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.

When we talk about HDTV, you need to know that there are five different display resolutions available: three of them are different display resolutions which are all popularly known as 720p, and then there are 1080i and 1080p, with 1080p being the highest resolution available. Maybe you're wondering how big, really, is the difference in resolution between 720p and 1080p televisions? Well, a typical 720p tv has a 1280×720 pixels resolution, which means that its total number of pixels is 921,600. An 1080p tv has 2,073,600 pixels, which is two times more!

5. The best prices come early in the season

We've generally found that the lowest prices of the holiday season on flat-panel TVs and more have been offered on Black Friday and the other frantic shopping days after Thanksgiving.

If you do shop early for an item and the price drops later, look to see if the retailer offers a price guarantee that gets you a price difference refund. Lots of big retailers offer price guarantees.
