This camcorder fits comfortably in your pocket and is easy to use with one touch recording and a flip out USB port that plugs directly into your computer and charges the lithium ion battery.
The Flip MinoHD comes in the minimalistic packaging that all other Flips come in. This packaging remind me of the iPhones it is very similar. Hopefully Flip will rectify this situation in future incarnations of the MinoHD. Basically the MinoHD camcorder is all about pushing the red button to start and stop recording and hit the playback button to see what you recorded and thats pretty much it.
It weighs a mere 3.3oz and is smaller than my mobile phone. Flip camcorders have earned a reputation for high quality video and MinoHD combines that signature Flip quality with the latest in HD technology. Its 4 GB of built in memory lets you capture an hour of brilliant HD video even in low light situations. The MinoHD does much better when held steady (Amazon is currently bundling it with a mini tripod for a reason). The camcorder also has some focus issues such as choosing the ground rather than the animal scampering across it and you can't get too close to your subjects or they will be out of focus.
The Flip MinoHD's intuitive controls compact package and quality video capture that now goes to HD make it an appealing competitor among camcorders that can come along for any ride. While that means you have one less USB cable to carry around it causes the camera to dangle awkwardly off the computer when connected and as a result the MinoHD may block other ports. Overall I think the flip out USB connector is a good thing annoyances aside. So you lose that option with the MinoHD but still good battery life overall. The camera does react a little slow though taking 3-4 seconds to power up and be ready to shoot.
The Flip Mino HD billed as the worlds smallest HD camcorder is worth its weight in gold. If I had to choose one con for this camera I would say that I wish they would've added an external microphone jack to it but thats really reaching. Minor issues I can handle a single dud unit I can understand but a product that consistently fails at it sole function is completely unacceptable. About the size of a small cell phone the MinoHD can easily be controlled with one hand. Theres no menu to worry about.
You have to charge it in a few hours on your computer USB port and it will run out of hours recording time long. The flip out USB arm plugs directly into your computer to launch built in FlipShare software or for simple file transfer. The included software provides tools to save and organize your videos, edit individual clips, make custom movies, email your videos, and upload them for sharing with friends. Simply flip out the USB arm plug in to any PC or Mac and start sharing your videos in mere seconds. Upload them to YouTube, MySpace, and AOL Video with the click of a button.
The size of the flip allows for more spontaneous captures also as it takes about 3 seconds to take out of your pocket turn on and press record. No unpackaging, no complicated setup, and no lost footage opportunities. Also the screen is so small that its difficult to see what you're recording which is necessary when the video is in 720p. And as you're recording you can get a sense of how the finished product will appear on a 1.46 inch LCD display that looks clear even in daylight.
